Editorial policy
How we produce, review, and maintain the content on this site.
Our commitment
MetalsAlpha publishes news, analysis, guides, and dealer reviews covering the precious metals market. We cover a financial topic — gold, silver, platinum, and palladium as investments — and we take that responsibility seriously.
Every piece of content on this site is held to the same standard: it must be accurate, fair, clearly sourced, and useful to the reader. If it isn't, we fix it or remove it.
How we produce content
News articles
Our news coverage draws on primary sources including central bank announcements, government data releases, regulatory filings, and reporting from established financial news outlets. We attribute sources directly in the text and link to original material wherever possible.
We use AI tools to assist with research, drafting, and data analysis. Every article is reviewed and edited by a named member of our editorial team before publication. The bylined author is responsible for the accuracy and quality of the final piece.
Guides and educational content
Guides are based on publicly available information from tax authorities, industry bodies, and dealer documentation. Where we reference tax rules or legal requirements, we cite the relevant authority (HMRC, IRS, FCA, etc.) and include the date the information was verified.
Guides are reviewed periodically and updated when rules change. The "last updated" date on each guide reflects the most recent editorial review.
Dealer reviews and rankings
Our dealer rankings are based on our own testing: we place real orders, compare premiums and fees, assess delivery times, and evaluate the buying experience. Rankings are updated monthly.
Affiliate partnerships do not influence rankings. Several of our top-ranked dealers have no commercial relationship with us. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.
Market reports
Monthly market reports combine price data from spot markets, macroeconomic indicators, central bank policy analysis, and supply-demand data from industry sources such as the World Gold Council and The Silver Institute. Forecasts and analysis represent our editorial view and are clearly labelled as such.
Editorial independence
MetalsAlpha earns revenue through affiliate links with bullion dealers. This is how we fund the site. Our editorial content — news, analysis, guides, and rankings — operates independently of these commercial relationships.
No advertiser, affiliate partner, or sponsor has editorial input, approval rights, or advance sight of our content. Our writers and editors do not participate in commercial negotiations with dealers.
AI use and disclosure
We use artificial intelligence tools as part of our editorial workflow. AI assists with research, source aggregation, initial drafts, and data analysis. It does not replace human editorial judgement.
Every article published on MetalsAlpha is reviewed, fact-checked, and approved by a named editor before publication. The bylined author takes responsibility for accuracy and editorial quality. We believe this approach combines the efficiency of AI with the accountability of human oversight.
Fact-checking
Our fact-checking process covers:
- Price data: Verified against live spot market feeds at the time of writing
- Statistics and claims: Cross-referenced against primary sources (central banks, government agencies, industry bodies)
- Tax and regulatory information: Checked against current official guidance from HMRC, IRS, FCA, and equivalent authorities
- Dealer information: Verified through our own testing and direct contact with dealers
- Historical claims: Confirmed against reputable data providers and institutional records
When we cannot independently verify a claim, we either omit it or clearly attribute it to its source with appropriate caveats.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly. Material corrections are noted at the top of the affected article. For full details on how we handle errors, see our Corrections Policy.
YMYL and financial content
Precious metals investment is a financial topic. Google classifies this as "Your Money or Your Life" (YMYL) content, meaning it can affect a reader's financial wellbeing. We hold ourselves to a higher standard because of this.
We do not provide personalised financial advice. Our content is educational and informational. We include risk warnings where appropriate and consistently remind readers that prices can fall as well as rise. We encourage readers to consult a qualified financial adviser before making investment decisions.
